  • Chocolate stores just aren't fair. They have such an advantage over other stores. They're full of CHOCOLATE! And Coppeneur is no exception. It's been open on Stephen Ave for about the last year and a half or so. My first venture in was during an Artwalk last year on one of the First Thursday evenings downtown. I was back on Canada Day, dragging my cousin and her friend along with me. Chocolate store? Hmph! Who wants to go into a chocolate store! Coppeneur has dreams in its future, dreams of making its own Coppeneur chocolate right on location, hosting workshops to show you how to make your own chocolate, etc. But for now, it remains a store front with imported chocolates and ingredients to make your own raw chocolate at home... right down to the organic cocoa bean imported from Ecuador. Pink salted caramel, toffees, truffles, chocolate bars. I think there might just be a chocolatey treat for all types! When I asked if there was one thing I shouldn't leave the store without, I was pointed to those pink salted caramels I just mentioned. Soft, chewy vanilla caramel covered in dark chocolate and topped with Himalayan Salt. Out of a package of 4, somehow two of them survived in my purse until this morning (when I found them, devoured them and everything about the chocolate shop came rushing back!) Hold out your hand, Bruce, the owner, may just drop a raw cocoa bean into it for you to taste. Hold out the other hand, you may also see a finished piece of chocolate appear. Yum. Enjoy!
