  • Oh wow, I can't wait until everyone realizes how great Popped is, the franchise opportunities explode, and I'll be able to travel anywhere in the world and still get my Dilly Pickle and Marilyn Monroe fixes. We came in during a lull on a Saturday afternoon, inspired by other Yelp reviews. At first I wasn't sure what to get or what exactly my options were (bag? tin? cup?), but the woman behind the counter quickly directed us to the samples hanging from the ceiling (adorable) and the full menu in the back, so helpfully divided into Savory, Sweet, and Chocolate options. She then also not only offered to get us samples in anything we wanted to try, but she made up some extra samples just for us. Well, that didn't make choosing any easier, as each mini-cup was full of flavor but not "fake" tasting at all. That had been one of my concerns, that the novelty of these innovative options may be synthetic and powdery after a bite or two. I was very tempted by the "Dirty Vegas" mix (a little of everything), but in the end we chose Loaded Potato, Dilly Pickle, Salt and Vinegar, and Marilyn Monroe. Even though I'm not really a white chocolate fan, I had to get the Marilyn Monroe based on reviews here. Edible glitter! So pretty! The MM ended up being nicely sweet and varied without any of the chalky cloy that white chocolate can bring. Before leaving I asked about the liquid nitrogen, which can be added for $1 extra. The woman very graciously gave us a sample with the LN2 added. "Chew with your mouth open," she advised. Ha! HA! I felt like Gandalf blowing smoke rings! Or Charlie and Uncle Joe with the Fizzy Lifting Drinks! (Before the fan nearly whacked them to bits, of course.) Mike and I couldn't stop pointing to each other and laughing as wispy clouds escaped our mouths after every bite. Seriously, moms and dads. If you don't take your child here at least once and spring for the liquid nitrogen option, you're a bad parent. Just a fact. The large bags seemed like they wouldn't last long, but this isn't your mindlessly scarfed everyday popcorn. Ours lasted for several days despite some serious couch time with a few Netflix marathons. A pox on artisan cupcakes and bow-tied cake pops. Popcorn with a nod to molecular gastronomy is the new hawtness. Crunch it up!
