| - We just love the Hills School, its been a truly wonderful place for our daughter. She started their a little over two years ago right after she turned two, and its been amazing to watch her grow and mature. The school has a child centered approach that works really well with our goals as a family.
She started with age two, and her teacher was absolutely amazing. With exceptional patience she understands how to teach kids how to deal with all their big emotions and regulate them in a healthy way. She does wonderful crafts, and integrates all the play in such a way as to help all the children learn. She encourages all the kids to work together as a team and help each other. Everyone is included and enjoys contributing. But they also have the opportunity to work by themselves as they wish and choose their own activities. They've done wonderful projects such as one around Valentine's Day where they make mailboxes and learn about the postal service, writing letters and sending mail.
Last year moved up to the next classroom, and she really enjoyed her new teacher and all the imaginative play, science type experiments, and new crafts. The teachers also work together to build upon the skills the kids have already learned especially in regards to social awareness and emotional regulation. They learn through structured and unstructured play, and her teacher was great about asking you about your child and then building on whatever they are interested in or working on. She was also wonderful in helping my daughter process have a new sibling and all the changes that came with it.
This year she just started in the pre-K classroom and with the same wonderful child-centered approach she is building on the skills the other teachers have taught, with an extra focus on Kindergarten readiness. They had a wonderful project yesterday where they learned about optical illusions, and then made their own thaumatrope. Such fun.
We truly love the spirit of the school and how they really listen to you and care about your children. I love the focus on learning through play and letting them be little. It really been the best way for my daughter to learn and she's made amazing progress in both academic skills and more importantly social awareness and emotional regulation.
Speaking from my own experience, we love the Reggio Emilio style of teaching and its been great for our daughter. I've always felt very safe and comfortable leaving my daughter at school with the teachers. They are wonderful at communicating any concerns or issues with us, as well as letting us know positive feedback. Both the director Dr. Enge and the assistant director have always been very prompt at a addressing any concerns I have with an email or phone call.
