Maryvale Baseball Park, home of the Brewers, is the second stop on my tour around the Cactus League. Say what you will about Maryvale. Make jokes about why they don't play night games here. This is a great little ball park!
This was my first time visiting and I was very surprised. I figured with its landlocked urban status that parking was going to be horrible. It wasn't. Police were stopping traffic on 51st to allow people to turn left. Parking was only $5 and swift.
I know Maryvale isn't the oldest park in the Cactus League, but it's getting up there. The architecture here is completely unique. Plus, I see it aging very well because it's so different. Lots of shaded seating. Lots of lawn seating. Love the steeper slope! And even sitting in the outfield feels like you're closer to the action because you aren't much higher than the playing field.
Food was decent. The brat could've been warmer than it was, but the mustard and sauerkraut fixed that. And they have Leinenkugel on draft! Amen!
Another competitive game, this one played by the Indians and the Brewers. No, I'm not following Cleveland. Just a coincidence. It ended with a walk off home run in the ninth for Milwaukee. Beautiful day complimented by a beautiful park. I'll be back!
