| - During the summer months, Tamari is a great place to go for a late-morning Sunday brunch. Their brunch menu is seasonal and changes a few times throughout the year. It's a good idea to check their website or call ahead to get an updated list of menu items. I've called a few times and the host/hostess is always friendly and willing to read the latest menu to you.
The brunch menu is small (but great) and consists of a handful of main entrees, some "small plate" dishes, and a build-your-own omelet option with many great ingredients. I can get away with eating an entree and a few large bites of cardamom bread (which is usually complimentary), but many times Ive been tempted to try the "Brunch Prix Fixe" which includes a small plate dish, an entree, a brunch cocktail, and the cardamom bread all for a good price.
The servings are on the small side, but very flavorful and filling. I've never walked away from Tamari feeling hungry, but at the same time, I've never been overly full. I'm still able to get up after eating and not feel like I need to lay down on the sidewalk and take a nap. Additionally, all of the dishes I've had have been well prepared and delicious. The dishes usually contain a protein (pork, beef, or shrimp), potato or potato confit, a mix of veggies, and usually a fried egg. With that said, the prices aren't exactly cheap, but they are very fair and reasonable. If you're looking for a cheap spot to grab a quick morning meal, this might not be the place. If you're willing to spend a few extra dollars for great food and a great experience, then this is where you want to go. It's a perfect spot for a date or nice friendly conversation with some friends.
The atmosphere is pretty great despite being right along busy Butler Street. Seating is not directly on the sidewalk, so there is a little bit of a barrier between the patio and the noisy cars driving by. The patio has some shade, but still gets some of the warm morning sun. One of my greatest joys of summer is being on the patio early on a Sunday morning, sitting with someone great to talk to, the sun peeking around the buildings, car and foot traffic low, birds chirping, people slowly getting outside and starting their days, just there enjoying the atmosphere while waiting for some very delicious food to come out. It's almost like you're not in Lawrenceville anymore or not sitting along a normally busy Butler Street. Sitting here thinking about it, I really can't wait for summer, just so I can go back to Tamari for Sunday brunch.
