| - Fresh cookies on demand? Don't mind if I do.
The red bench is definitely a quaint business concept and the idea is simple. They serve fresh baked cookies, frozen yogurt and loose leaf teas. Since they specialize in fresh baked cookies, that's what we tried.
Concept:
Step 1: Pick a cookie base
Step 2: Pick two toppings
Step 3: Wait 5 minutes for the warm decadence you're about to experience in your mouth.
There are 5 cookie bases to choose from: original, gluten free original, peanut butter, double chocolate and oatmeal. There are about 30 or so toppings to put into the cookie.
I came here with my boyfriend on a Saturday evening and decided to YOLO it and have dessert before dinner. Together we created a peanut butter base cookie with dark chocolate and macadamia nuts. The cookies were fresh, warm and tender. However, I would have liked more texture in the cookies. For example, having bigger pieces of melted dark chocolate or larger pieces of nuts for extra crunch. Each batch comes with 5 mini cookies, so all the toppings are also "mini" and are crushed or grounded into the batter.
I wouldn't say the cookies are exactly comparable to Felix and Norton cookies since the whole business concept is different. Red bench cookies are self-creations and are made on the spot, whereas Felix and Norton cookies are already made upon arrival, however there is a larger variety of flavours to choose from.
I give the Red Bench the following ratings:
Food (rating only for their cookies): 7/10
Atmosphere: 9/10 - could use a little creativity on the walls
Service: 10/10 - very friendly and knowledgeable servers
I'd definitely recommend this place as a date location, a quiet hang out for a group of friends, or even a great study location during the day.
