  • This is the place to go when you are looking for any kind of specialty/exotic or carb products, even ordinary ones like flour. They must have at least a dozen different kinds of flour. For one example, it is next to impossible to find large pearl tapioca anywhere, even if you look online. My mother in Calgary has been trying in vain to find this product anywhere, even online, without success. but Rube's has it in stock all the time. Many other specialty rice products including (among other things) premium wild rice (not cheap, $15/lb but worth it). Rice bran (useful for making Japanese pickled vegetables). Some funky green-coloured rice seasoned in tea or something, in which I didn't partake. And, of course, the glorious Du Puy lentils that go so well with the smoked pork hocks from Upper Cut Meats on the upper level (they used to have them hanging from a hook up front, now you have to ask for them) and it makes a wonderful braise. Sad that Rube himself has passed on, but he's left a legacy that contributes to excellent product selection and variety in this market.
