SouthSide Works has unfortunately suffered from quite a bit of turnover lately, but it still retains its pleasant atmosphere. Err.. just not so much in the winter doldrum months. You know - those cold and blustery months that set in after Christmas is over and before the last snow pile has melted.
Still, it can be an okay place to hang out. The movie theater is great, and the chain restaurants in the immediate area are nothing to complain about. I'd love to see some local stores or boutiques to take hold, but the rent is probably too high for that. Plus, most of the local color is more permanently ensconced a bit farther west down Carson Street.
Enjoy it for what it is: a few blocks of gentrified , non-threatening shopping and dining that is more vomit-free, urine-free and drunk-free than the rest of the Southside.
