The bighorn sheep make this park worthy of 5 stars, without a doubt. That's right, bighorn sheep. At a park. It's amazing.
The park itself is not exceptional. It's a nice park with a lovely view of Lake Mead. There is a small playground with a short rock climbing wall as well as gazebos, basketball courts, and tennis courts... Your basic park amenities.
The reason I drive past numerous parks to head to Boulder City and Hemenway Valley Park is the herd of 50-75 sheep that frequent the area. The rocky hills around the park and Lake Mead are where these sheep reside, and the grassy park is essentially an all you can eat buffet for these majestic creatures. I can spend hours relaxing on one of the benches at the park, watching the sheep and being thankful I get to live in such an amazing, beautiful area.
While you can count on the sheep being at the park fairly regularly, please remember that they ARE wild animals. Respect that and keep your distance. Do not try to feed them. There are signs around the park that remind you of all of this, and also include facts about the area and the sheep.
A true Boulder City gem, this is one park that animal lovers of any age should make a point to visit at some point.
