If you are recovering from mastectomy, you must come to The Oaks Spa! Before my bilateral mastectomy, I was lucky enough to be given a gift card for The Oaks from a friend. I'm not sure why she picked this spa as it is almost an hour from our home. I didn't use the card before surgery for a relaxation massage and upon calling them a month after surgery, I learned they had so much more to offer. The owner, Jeanne, has extensive knowledge and training with post breast surgery patients. With arm movements limited because of scar tissue, I was happy to discover that their MSTR (Manual Scar Tissue Release) therapy would provide relief and more importantly, give me long term benefits. Scar tissue builds over time, causing chronic pain and immobility. I have been going as often as possible (once every 7 - 10 days) and I feel they are making such great progress. It is worth the drive! My mobility has increased greatly, my scar tissue has softened and I am close to having full release of the pain down my arms. Jeanne's work with local hospitals' research studies is a blessing to anyone who has had to undergo such major surgery. My cancer diagnosis was hard to cope with but along the way I have met people who have made a difference in my life ... Kara and Jeanne at the Oaks are at the top of that list!
