  • This was a really great experience! We got really excited when we were picked up at our hotel because the vehicle was sleek, new and had outlets at every seat. We soon realized though that this was just a shuttle. We were all taken to a parking lot/queue area where we were put on bigger vans: one to the south rim and one to the west. This vehicle was still comfortable, but no outlets. And no opportunity throughout the day to charge our phones at stops unless we wanted to miss out on sightseeing time. So it became a game of conserving battery life on our phones so that we wouldn't run out. But whatever. It's a budget trip. What do you expect? I just put my phone on airplane mode and turned the brightness down until we got to the canyon where I wanted to take the most pictures. Our guide, Kenny on coach 15, was awesome! (On the way home he gave us tons of great Vegas tourism tips that we wished we would have had a few days earlier when we'd first gotten to town.) We made 2 short tourist stops along the way to the canyon: Hoover Dam and the little town on Route 66 that inspired the Cars movie. Both were very interesting and informative. Kenny had all sorts of great facts to share and a great sense of humor to top it all off. Breakfast in the morning and lunch later were both a collection of cold paper bag meals. Nothing fancy, but filling and able to be eaten on the go so that we didn't lose time at the canyon because of stopping for a sit down meal. At the canyon, we had 3 hours to explore how we wanted, where we wanted. Which was exactly the kind of independence we wanted. We were able to see the canyon as the sun was slowly setting, which was amazing because the changing light really does change the colors of the canyon! It was breathtaking. The ride back was pretty grueling though. By that point, everyone was so tired. All I wanted to do was use my phone, but I didn't want to eat the last of my battery life. As had been done on the the way there, movies were played on the TVs interspersed throughout the vehicle any time we were in motion, but at a certain point on the way home, I just wanted the noise to stop so I could sleep. So maybe bring ear plugs if you can't sleep with outside noise going on. All in all, it was a great deal, we had an awesome tour guide and it was a really incredible experience. We saw everything we'd expected to see and more. It's a really great way to see the Grand Canyon from Vegas on a budget. It's not nearly as rough around the edges as it could have been, but definitely don't go into it expecting a luxury experience.
