We tend to always rent from Hertz since we get a decent discount thru our IHG membership and the rates tend to end up the lowest, especially if we want anything above a compact car. We tend to rent SUVs in Vegas since we are typically going on National Park trips and want the high clearance for the dirt roads.
The Las Vegas location seems to be famous for trying to sell us an upgrade or insurance. Free upgrades are pretty common in the rental industry - but Vegas seems to be the only location I'm asked to pay for the upgrade. Yes, I'm happy to take a full size SUV instead of the mid size I reserved, but not for $25 per day. When I refuse to pay for the upgrade, it's funny how a mid size SUV miraculously appears on the lot - "You're in luck, one was just returned and just came out of detailing". Or else they get a manager to "override the system" to get us the full size at no additional charge.
Then there is the insurance. I always thought the hard sell on insurance was because they thought we were foreigners. But reading the reviews here I now know everybody gets this hard sell. Just Say No!
If your going to rent from this location, just be prepared for the hard sell, know what you want, and stick to your guns.
