After seeing Taiyaki from Recess all over IG, my friends and I decided to check it out. I had just gotten Taiyaki at SOMI SOMI in LA a few days prior so I was super excited to try Taiyaki in LV. Unfortunately Recess Ice's taiyaki didn't live up to my expectations.
There wasn't a long line but I'd say we got there just in time because before we left, a line was forming. I love the sayings they had on the walls (perfect for picture taking!) and the workers were super nice but the Taiyaki wasn't what I was hoping for. We were offered samples of anything we wanted but we had our hearts set on trying the taiyaki and mangonada.
My gf and I ordered the green tea taiyaki, I got the green tea custard and she got the swirl. Good taiyaki, IMO, should be crispy on the outside and slightly chewy. I didn't like the fact that the taiyaki wasn't hollow. It was very similar to eating a cupcake with ice cream on top. It was very dense, and I don't remember getting a strong green tea flavor from the taiyaki. I do like that they offer nutella as a filling, I'm not sure how much extra it was, probably $0.50 more. There wasn't much nutella in the taiyaki itself. Hopefully in the future they'll be able to add more fillings like red bean or custard. They also offered toppings, $0.50 each I believe.
2 taiyakis and one mangonada came out to be $18.50 which is a bit on the high side. My friend said his mangonada had too much sauce.
