  • My 2003 Murano was stolen from my apartment space on New years Eve. During the 21 day insurance company recovery waiting period before cash value settlement, I valiantly searched for another Murano because I loved that model of vehicle. I had plenty of time to search, obviously. The time factor made no difference. Car Max, True Car, AutoTrader, private parties, the story was the same. Murano replacements within 3 - 4 years later than my stolen 2003 were all going to be two thousand to forty-five hundred dollars more than my insurance settlement depending on how they were equipped and sometimes NOT! New (low) car payments were in my future. If that were not bad enough, I had time to travel and see a half dozen of these Muranos on the market. None of them had all the loaded equipment as mine had. None of them even had leather interiors as mine. Pretty discouraging. Then Auto Trader listed a 2007 Murano loaded, located with a John Schauwecker at Another Time Used Cars, 5 miles from my home. I figured that since it was loaded with the lowest price than anything I had seen in a week, it would look more abused than several I had already looked at. But hope springs eternal. The lot I saw was small and screamed crap used cars and bad deals. But I noticed something strange. All the cars facing the street and in the lot were shiny, washed, sparkling and some were quite late models. The cars were terrifically well cared for, at least on the outside. I saw my Murano shining on the front row of their street display parking row and was very encouraged. I was not disappointed. John was as friendly and helpful and engaging as anyone you can imagine. He was the opposite of a "used car salesman". He brought the car out for me to test dive...ALONE! I was sure that this beautiful machine with tire shine and clear sparkling headlamp covers was going to sound like a bulldozer upon ignition. It did not. It was more hummingbird. He took a copy of my license, gave me the keyless entry fob (no car I had seen had that) and said take it out. I put the car through its paces. Hard acceleration onto the nearby freeway, hard braking, hard cornering, testing of all interior control mechanisms, I pinched myself because this could only have been a dream. Quiet, powerful, smooth...it was my old perfectly taken care of Murano only four model years into the future. The audio controls on the left side of the steering wheel were dead. I mentioned this. After explaining that his cars were "as is" I knew that paying a Nissan dealership probably up to $150 to fix it would be well worth it because the price I was paying was so reasonable. He said he'd have "his guys" look at it and if they could repair it, cost...$50 bucks. They repaired it perfectly. Value, transparency, authentic caring about your situation, care and pride for the product they offer...exemplary! It's not just John! When I came in to complete paperwork and exchange monies, he was away from the lot and his counterpart,(sorry didn't get his name) was as engaging and efficient as John to complete the sale. Bottom line, the price they charged me for this beauty was within $250...yes...$250 of the settlement AAA ins co. had given me for my 2003. I'm still pinching myself as I write!
