| - Note -- Whenever I call the Gastonia TWC store, my call is routed by an automated voice response system. In this day and age, you can never be sure where the person answering the phone is truly located. Therefore, take this as a review of Time Warner Cable's service in general.
I've had TWC for internet and phone for over 15 years. I was using DirecTv for cable, however, and decided to take advantage of a TWC bundle. I scheduled cable installation for Monday, 4/20 at 1pm and requested a 30-min call-ahead. At 2:30pm, I started calling TWC since I hadn't heard from them. I was assured they were on their way. I called again at 3:30pm and 4:30pm because no one had called or come out. Each time I was assured that they were only minutes away from my house. After 5pm, a guy finally shows up from Metro Services. Turns out that TWC contracts out most of their installations now. This guy worked on my service until after 9:00pm (remember, I'm only adding cable -- already had internet & phone). I went out to check on him after 9pm, and he was in the pitch black darkness, with no flashlight, fiddling with the box on my house. I don't have lights on that side, so I told him he needed to finish up soon or re-schedule. A few minutes later, I heard his vehicle leave. Later, when I tried to watch tv, I discovered that he'd disconnected my DirecTV service. The next morning I looked at the box he'd been working on and I saw he'd left the cover off, completely exposing all the wiring to the rain overnight. There was cabling hanging out, some connected, and some disconnected. It was ridiculous. I could even see where a cable had been cut, and just left there. I called TWC and was told the earliest they could get someone back out there would be Wednesday. After taking Monday off for the previous appointment and then sitting at my house from 1pm until after 9pm waiting for the service to be connected, I didn't want to do that again. So I told them I would go to work, but I could meet them at the house if they gave me 30 minutes notice before arrival. Did they call? Not until the guy was already sitting in my driveway! However, this tech was more knowledgeable, and quickly determined that all my cabling would need to be re-run since it was very outdated. Because it was a bigger job, and because he'd had to wait for me to arrive (no call, remember?), he couldn't fit it in that day. He did put the cable box back in order and close it up. As soon as he left, I called TWC to schedule another appointment. They said they'd send a technician back at 5pm the same day. Of course, no one ever showed up (surprise!). Today (Thursday), I just called again and I've been given an appointment for Saturday. I've also requested a true TWC technician and not a Metro contractor. I don't have faith that anything good will happen on Saturday, but I've decided that if it's not fully completed, I'm going to do what I've been considering for a while -- CUT THE CABLE!!! With Netflix, Hulu, Sling, and many others out there. It just may be time for a change.
