water..... where's the... water....
The age (pronounced with a short e) may have been the saltiest thing I've ever eaten (also their sausage). Both are part of the bento box. The Age is supposed to be a little wet, but this was dripping. Age is one of my favorite things to eat and the one at Kuben was disappointing.
The beef and onion bento was good, for the most part. The beef and onion (gyudon) had the thin cut meat and was the perfect amount of mirin/soy/sugar flavor.
The salad is small, but a nice addition. The rest of the sides were decent, but nothing special. Edible, but nothing I want to go back to eat.
I don't want to claim Kuben as a Japanese bento shop. It's an attempt, but not a very good one. The 4 stars only because it has zero competition.
