  • Location-specific: Convenient location right on Yonge Street with extremely close access to the subway, walkability to the island park ferries and pretty much all of the big tourist destinations. The area is very crowded and perfect if you're a city dweller and want to stay within those surroundings when visiting Toronto. The area is not ideal if you're looking to make more of an escape to crowded, congested Toronto (I would suggest choosing another city to visit if this is the case, but anyhow..) Hotel-specific: The front desk staff were very cordial and helpful to two tourists making their first visit to the city. They did not treat us like typical tourists who want nothing more than to buy Blue Jays gear and point in awe at the CN Tower, but rather two people who had a curiosity to take in the surroundings and make the most of walking. The person who drew out must-see areas on the map suggested where to go for nighlife, the best way to get to places at certain times of day and where the public transit was, which is the info I want when I see a city. The room itself seemed more impressive on the website (no surprise for any hotel, really) but it was clean and fairly roomy. Pillows sucked, and for me that's a sign of less-than-average quality of guest amenities when you have six pillows on a bed and all are flattened or contain clumped up old polyester. We booked a balcony room and while I was expecting more of a grandiose view of the city, I got a 4th floor view of Yonge Street's majestic McDonald's and Shopper's Drug Mart-- I never learn, I guess, that pictures on a booking site are deceiving. Nice to have a balcony, but the door to the balcony was missing the latch that ultimately locked the door, leaving us to use a bar in the bottom of the door frame. (I never felt as if my security was in jeopardy in the hotel or general area, but a door that locks is always a nice amenity.) A few more less-than-whelming factors: -Parking is not ideal, but it is downtown Toronto. You can either pay max price for valet in a private underground lot or pay ten bucks less to self-park in a semi-secure lot across the street. This did not seem like it was a fault of the hotel, but rather a consequence of opting to drive and stay in a downtown area of any city. -The bar is PRICEY and has little to no ambiance as it spills into and doubles as a coffee shop in the morning. Jack Daniels and coke is $12! Top-shelf whisky was upwards of $22. We did not even try to check out the breakfast selection as there was a Tim Hortons across the street that seemed like a less-pricey alternative when booking a room without breakfast included. Overall, enjoyed our stay in Toronto and the friendly staff helped welcome us properly to a new city.. but if I have the opportunity to return, I will likely try a different hotel in attempt to get more quality amenities for the price I'm paying.
