  • Only after I had to call 911 on a knife fight happening directly outside my front door did management finally fix my security alarm. I moved to Henderson from Chicago, and as a woman living alone I was drawn to Crystal Creek for the gated community and apartment alarm system. The alarm was broken when I moved in, wires were sticking out of the walls. My neighbor across the complex would sexually harass me whenever he was on his patio and I walked out of my apartment. I approached management every other week for 6 months about the alarm and kept getting the run around, being told that security was a "third party" and that management couldn't do anything about it. I had to track down the manager for the security company, personally have him look at my apartment, only for him to tell me that apartment management had the system removed long ago, and that he would have to get their permission to reinstall an entire new system. As this was a service that I was paying for through my lease, I asked management if I could be pro-rated. I was told no. I was called by management and told that they needed to make a copy of my key because the maintenance copy didn't work. I went in and asked to see the key, because their copy had worked numerous times in the past. The front desk lady went to the back to retrieve the key, but it wasn't there. It turns out that they "lost" the key, and needed to make a new one. I asked if they could re-key the apartment because I didn't feel comfortable with someone possibly having a key to my place, and they refused. I have never been lied to by property management, and then told that my safety is less important than their bottom line so many times. My hot water heater broke, and it took Crystal Creek two weeks to repair it. I asked to be pro-rated, as my lease states that I have the right to hot water, and they said no. I also asked to be pro-rated because I didn't use water in those 2 weeks, I showered at a friend's place, and they told me no because I still had to pay the average for my neighbors' water consumption. The formula for their water charges has your entire building equally splitting the building's water charges. So as one person, you are not only paying for your water but also that of you neighbors. I moved to Nevada from across the country, so I had a local friend check out the layout and talk to management for me before signing a lease. I called and talked to Lorin multiple times, and was told that my water+ sewage+ trash bill would be about $40 per month, as I was one person living in a small place. My bill was always at least $72, and when I asked another front desk person about it they said that Lorin had previously told people this at signing, but because it wasn't in writing it didn't mean anything. I am now in a house with double the square footage, and pay half as much for water+ sewage+ trash. There is a mandatory $5 charge to have a postcard with your bill on it mailed to you. You cannot have this service revoked. Both pools were closed for months, due to the safety phones not working. I would often go to the pool areas just to lay out and call friends. I was told to leave the area because the safety phone wasn't working, while I was talking on the phone with someone. I understand that this is merely a liability issue, but the way management spoke to me was rude and condescending. The pools were then closed for 3 months while they put off fixing the phones, meanwhile Community Area Maintenance fees were not lowered even though community areas were closed and not being maintained.
