  • A disappointment. I used to LOVE Bandung, but it has certainly gone downhill. First off, we were a group of six and initially we had a very charismatic and attentive server, but midway through, they switched us over to someone whose service was a bit slower, but not entirely bad. So, overall, service was probably the best aspect of the meal. The meal itself was bland, flavorless, and unfulfilling. The curries were soupy and lacking meat. We had the following for appetizers: martabak telor, tahu goreng, pansit goreng, rujak cuka. The tofu was tough and flavorless in the tahu goring, the rujak cuka was $5.95 for garnish, the pansit goreng was a tasty little fried, stuffed wonton but wasn't particularly inspired, and the martabak telor was flavorful but much too greasy. As for the dinner entrees we split the following: daging rendang, gulai kambing, kari lele, and red curry squash with tofu. Squash curry is my all-time favorite food but it was reduced to an insipid coconut-flavored puddle with a few pieces of squash, eggplant, and tofu when we went to Bandung. For fabulous squash curry, avoid Bandung at all costs and head to Lao Laan Xang or Sa-Bai Thong. Unfortunately the curse of watery curry also afflicted the gulai kambing. The other dishes did not leave lasting impressions, with the exception of the kari lele, which was spiced nicely, but woefully overdone. ***All of these things didn't make the experience of dining at Bandung one-star-review-worthy. However, the party in the next room did. The restaurant hosted a "private" party in its adjacent room (note: only a wall separates both rooms and there are open doors). The party was not private in that we heard everything happening, including the most atrocious karaoke singing heard by sober ears for approximately 30 minutes (someone even attempted to sing "Bohemian Rhapsody"). This was not a good environment for a friend whose parents had just come in to sit down for a leisurely meal with him and his friends.*** Not cool.
