Passed by this park on our roadtrip to Phoenix from LA! It was a nice introduction to the plant life and hiking in Phoenix. Parking does cost $6 so carpool if possible, but there was a lot of parking spots available. The park ranger gave us a map that showed all the different hikes and parking lots.
We only had an hour at this location so we checked out only two easy hiking trails: Black Rock Loop trail and Waterfall trail.
The Black Rock Loop trail is a 0.5 loop where you can get really close to some extremely tall Saguaro cactus! Another highlight of this trail is that there are signs along the trail that give you information on the plant life and animals in the area.
The Waterfall trail is a 1mi hike where you can actually see a waterfall! However, since it hadn't rain for a while, there was no waterfall but there was still some water. Nevertheless, it's still worth it to hike this trail so that you can see the large white granite stones. There were also signs that explained how White Tank Mountain got its name which was interesting to know.
Overall the park is well maintained and it's easy to find water fountains and restrooms too. Since we visited in March during late afternoon, the weather was beautiful. However, I'm sure the park becomes extremely hot during summer since there isn't much shade. There are longer hikes at the park, so my boyfriend and I will definitely visit again!
