  • This must be the worse Second Cup shop in the city. I used to frequent this coffee shop quite a bit when I first moved into the area and I always ordered the same thing: a regular mochachino, no foam, in either a small or medium size. Aside from the fact that the drink tasted already so different (for the worse) from other Second Cup coffee shops, I also couldn't understand why the taste varied so much from one day to the next, depending on who made it. If you ever compare a mocha from this location, to any other location, you'll find it lacks sweetness, the taste of the espresso is overpowering and very bitter; the consistency of the drink is watery and thin. It ends up tasting like a dull bitter latte. The mocha I have grown to love has, for the very most part, been full in flavour and consistency; the proper measures of espresso and chocolate syrup with properly steamed milk, make a rich creamy drink. I've been to the Second Cups on Bloor (between Avenue Rd and Yonge), Church St, College St, Queen St (just west of Spadina), below in the ManuLife center, they're all great. It is also terribly difficult to get your order understood if it is taken by whom I believe might be the owner. You find yourself repeating yourself like three times if you order one thing and five times if you order two things. The other woman of Philipino descent is very unfriendly and rude. She always adds foam even if I ask her directly to omit the foam. (How about I add milk in her coffee even if she asks for it black? Or put whipping cream if she asked for no whipping cream) I asked her for a receipt and she threw a wet piece of paper onto the counter. I asked if I could have another one and when she huffed about it, I asked her if she would want to take a wet piece of paper into her wallet. This location has a high turnover of its staff. I ran into one of the guys that used to work there, at a Second Cup located on King Street. He was so happy to have finally left there. There are a couple of employees that seem quite nice there but I will never return because of those who aren't, besides why would I settle for a crappy mocha if I can get a tasty one elsewhere.
