  • We decided to stop in here on a recent Friday night after doing some shopping it was around 8:15pm and most of the other places in the Arboretum had quite long lines. We walked right in to no lines and a half empty bar area. We were greeted almost immediately and were told it would be a few minutes. It was a little weird as the host walked away and kind of left us just standing there for about 10 minutes. When we looked around about 25-30% of the tables were empty so we weren't sure why we were waiting but, I digress. We decided to get 3 small plates and split an entree. We got the fried oysters, Pimento Cheese, and fried green tomatoes for our small plates and then the catfish entree, to spilt. The server asked if we'd like the food to come out in any particular order and we said no. I thought is was really awesome of her to ask that. Her service was excellent, seriously, it was excellent. She asked all the right questions, checked in on us at the right time, just fantastic. Anyway, our 3 small plates came out. The best thing of the 3 was the pimento cheese as it was the only thing with any flavor. The fried green tomatoes were very bland, i had to smother them in the sauce it came with. Would not get those again. Fried Oysters again, were bland. i guess it's maybe a lot to ask to get flavorful shellfish this far inland. We smeared the pimento cheese on the tomatoes and oysters just to give it some flavor. we finished the small plates and then the cat fish was brought out. The cat fish was good, but again, very bland. It came with a sauce that you had to smother the fish in to get any kind of flavor. The grit cakes were just ok and my boyfriend commented that the Brussels sprouts weren't as good as the one's I make at home. Long story short, while the service of the waitstaff was excellent, the host/hostess needs to manage things better and the for the price the food just isn't worth it. 75% of our food was flavorless and bland, though it came quickly and was piping hot. I don't think we will be returning unless the food improves.
