| - So I have waited a few days to post this review because I was angry, and wanted to make sure I actually got my point across instead of ranting. Regardless, this review is going to be long.
We have taken our animals to this hospital, and their sister hospital, for as long as I can remember. 2 months ago, I adopted a dog. She was a year old, we were uncertain of whether or not she was fixed. I had been doing my research to find her a good vet, with a good reputation, that wasn't going to drain my bank account. Then my baby went into heat. She was stressed, bleeding, and just going insane. So I decided to call Norterra because I knew we had been to them before, and the price- although still high, was much more reasonable than vets in my area. They scheduled her quickly, and my boyfriend got up super early to take her down.
Mind you, we live in Laveen, so this is quite the drive.
He got to the vet, got checked in, and called me. The price we had been quoted originally had gone up quite a bit, as she was 53 pounds, instead of being under 50 like I had originally thought. But she needed to be spayed, he was already there. So I told them to take off the microchip, just fix her. She was fixed, and it seemed like all was going well. I gave her the meds they gave us, followed all of their instructions, even called to double check a few things. Everything seemed to be fine. We got a call later in the afternoon that they would need to keep her longer, as she was still overly drowsy from the meds. This can happen with larger dogs that need more anesthesia, so I said no worries, and we picked her up later that day.
One of the first things I realized when picking her up was that they didnt supply a cone, in fact they told me she probably wouldn't need one. Lol, no, she began chewing immediately. Not a huge deal, but considering the fact that I had just spent $400 you would think they would supply one of the most basic things needed after a surgery. So, I went and picked one up.
The rest of the two weeks went without incident, and soon she was healed up nicely, or so I thought.
She developed a knot at the top of her scar. This can be common, I have seen it countless times in kittens, but since it had been a long time since I had owned a female dog, I decided to call to double check. They assured me this was normal.
Another week goes by, and my boyfriend was playing with her on the floor when he suddenly calls me over, panicked, to come look at her stomach. Overnight, the knot had gone from a little extra scar tissue, to an inflamed, puss filled ball on her belly.
I immediately started calling emergency vets, as infections can be serious. With the wait times being ridiculous (6-7 hours), and seeing how it was already midnight and she wasnt in pain, I decided to call Norterra in the morning to have them take a look.
I called, and was told no one could see me that day, even after explaining the situation. I hung up, angry that they were not taking an infection seriously.
I called my mom, to see if she knew anyone else to take her to, and she ended up calling Norterra back, and god knows what she said but they told me to bring my baby down as soon as I could.
So I packed her up, and made the 30 minute drive down to their office.
We waited for a while, which is fun with a 1 year old playful puppy who needs to great everyone and everything that walks through the door. They finally took her back, and about 5 minutes later called me into the room with her. The doctor explained that the infection was only on the surface, which I was relieved, and that she was going to give her antibiotics to help it heal. Perfect.
Perfect until she told me the total of the days visit, that is. $96. NINETY-SIX DOLLARS for them to look at her for 5 minutes and prescribe medications. Looking at the receipt later, I realized they had charged me an exam fee. That fee NEVER should have been charged. The incision they made on my dog got infected, which the doctor even told me was probably caused by the glue they used, and I was charged.
So $500 to get my dog fixed, plus the money I spent in gas, and I am left a very unhappy customer. My family and I will not be returning, as this office seems to only care about the money they bring in, instead of the animals they treat.
