  • My brother is a Prince fan. My brother is also generous. This past spring, when my dad was down in Bright Light City for a week, my brother surprised us with tickets for "Purple Reign" (tickets go for $50 each starting). "Purple Reign" ain't just a Prince tribute show. "Purple Reign" is the Number One Prince Tribute show in the world. If this accolade is not enough, in 2008 the cast appeared on the "David Letterman Show." The star of this cast is Jason Turner who is the Artist that plays Prince. "Purple Reign": the Number One Prince Tribute Show in the World is based on the late Prince's performance in "Purple Reign." The current home of "Purple Reign" is the show room in the Westgate. As rock and roll historians are aware, back when this show room was in the International Hotel and Las Vegas Hilton this was where Elvis Presley The King of Rock & Roll performed. From July 1969 to December 1976, Elvis Presley performed over 600 sold out shows in this show room. Inside the Westgate there is an Elvis statue with a plaque claiming that the King performed 837 of these shows. Regardless of how many shows Elvis performed here, the show room and hotel had the King of Rock & Roll's vibe. Decades after Elvis Presley had left the building, the show room features the exact intimate vibe. Just as I remembered it from the Kool & the Gang concert in the late 1990s, there was not a bad seat in the house. No matter where you sit, you feel that you are close to the stage. In the Spring of 2017, I felt close to the action on stage while Jason Turner performed Prince's greatest hits. Owing to the fact that I am not as familiar with Prince's work that my brother is, there were times that I had to ask him what is going on. I can speak for quite a few spectators watching the Morris Day and Jerome Denton segment in the middle of the show. Being that I walked into this show without seeing "Purple Reign" I duped myself into believing that the hyper-talented Prince who could play any kind of instrument was now playing this character that is musical and funny. This err came to an end when I heard "We want Prince" said at a low tone. My advice is that if you never saw "Purple Reign," to see it before the show. Just as Elvis Presley rocked this room decades ago with the hits, Jason Turner as Prince continued the tradition. He played and lived Prince to the max. This show was high energy and vintage Prince hits. These hits included "When Doves Cry," "Raspberry Beret," "Lets Go Crazy," "1999," and "Little Red Corvette." Jason Turner wore three different Prince outfits that displayed three different perspectives of Prince. This show has the ingredients of a blockbuster Las Vegas show all the way. There was one more Las Vegas ingredient added to this blockbuster show. Throughout its history Las Vegas shows have featured voluptuous and talented women known as show girls. In my opinion "Purple Reign" followed this Las Vegas tradition with the voluptuous and talented Appolonia* and Porche* dancing with the music and Prince. Warning! If you are a heterosexual male your eyes will divert from Prince while Appolonia and Porche dance with the music and Prince. The fact is that my eyes did just that. In the process of dancing the blonde dancer stripped down to very little clothing. But, as they say that's Vegas baby! Additionally Talent is Vegas baby!. Appolonia and Porche are extraordinary talented dancers that added to the high energy of the Prince show. If I am not mistaken they were also in the movie "Purple Reign." Appolonia and Porche looked familiar to the women that I recall seeing during the Prince and the Revolution era and a video for "1999." If you are a Prince fan or appreciate his legacy, I recommend seeing the number one Prince tribute show. It combines the best of the Las Vegas show with the best of Prince. ________________________ *I believe that these are the names of the dancers
