| - Today was the Grand Opening of Laduree. My girlfriend and I were excited to come to Laduree at Yorkdale since the food tasted great in Paris, France. We expected a long waiting period.
We arrived 15 minutes after they opened at noon. We stood in line for almost 1.5 hrs until we got to the door. It's too bad they didn't have a separate line for people who wanted to dine in. The store had one line to accommodate those who wanted to dine in, as well as those who wanted to buy macarons at the boutique for take-away.
The tea salon had a small number of tables (~9-10). The decor and environment were lovely (e.g., marble tables).
We ordered the afternoon tea set and a sandwich. Our drinks came promptly. Our tea was constantly refilled with hot water, so that we never ran out.
What gives this place 3 stars is the wait for the food. My girlfriend and I waited 1 hour for the food to arrive. Some customers who came in ~15 minutes after us got their sandwiches before we did. Another lady ordered the afternoon tea set, and also received her food a bit later. I don't think it took 1 whole hour though. It's up in the air whether or not the afternoon tea set takes a while to prepare or if our order was forgotten.
The service had its ups an downs. It was difficult to flag down some of the waitresses for assistance. I felt like some of them were avoiding eye contact with the customers.
After asking another server whether or not our food was coming, the tea set came out within a few minutes. However, not without additional confusion. They gave us the incorrect sandwiches and macarons that we selected with our afternoon tea set. I was disappointed. However, the waitress apologized and quickly fixed the order.
Once we finished our food, bad luck struck once again. Their point of sales system crashed and had to reboot in order for us to pay. We spent quite a while at Laduree already, so a few more minutes didn't matter to us at this point.
TLDR. It was nice to sit inside the tea salon and soak in the environment. The decor was pretty. The waitresses were nice but hard to flag down. Since it was the grand opening, one would expect bumps along the way. However, we spent approximately 3.5 hours (waiting in line (1.5 hrs), waiting for food (1 hr), eating and paying (1 hr)) at the store. If you plan to come, make sure you schedule plenty of time just in case.
