I was so excited to see a Hobby Lobby being built on this side of town. Sadly, as big as it may look when you walk in, it's actually smaller than the other locations in town. The center of the store being mostly home accents is a bummer because I'd rather have more "hobby" options than home decor. I do love the home decor HL has to offer and have many things decorated in my home from HL however I ordered all of that online from their website. I have found that there is a larger variety of home decor, craft and hobby selection on the website and it comes packaged well and not dinged up or broken like many of the items are in the stores. I have also seen the same items online for 70% off that are 50% or less in the store. Keep that in mind when making an expensive purchase and you can still use the 40% off one regular priced item online as well. The Hobby Lobby on Rainbow near Lake Mead is larger, cleaner and the employees are more helpful and knowledgeable about the items in each department than at this location on Decatur.
While walking around the store it looked dirty and cramped. There were broken ornaments on the floor making it hard to get my cart around in those spots I came up on. I do cake decorating and was really bummed to see all the Sunny Side Up (I believe it's a hobby lobby brand but could be wrong) baking stuff. I've tried that brand and it's poor quality compared to Wilton and other known brands. If you hold up a cake pan by both Wilton and Sunny Side Up you will see the difference in quality, a lot of the pans are thinner copycats of the Wilton stuff. I did score several Wilton pans and tools from the clearance section that I was very pleased with. The spray paint in the craft section is way overpriced compared to Walmart and they carry Krylon (I prefer rustoleum) which has the nozzle most people don't like. Walmart carries both Krylon and Rustoleum.
If you like Wilton brand products check out Michael's because they have a big selection and not just that, but they have items by Wilton that are exclusive to Michael's only. Michael's offers the same 40% off coupon as well often offers 20% off your total including sale items. They also give a military discount which Hobby lobby does not.
They have no lights on any of the registers making it hard to know which one is open. The area where you put your merchandise at is small making it awkward for the customer as well the cashier when trying to unload items from the cart if you have a lot of stuff.
I used to really love Hobby Lobby, but have seen it change so much over the years with them changing out known brands for their own and not offering the classes at each location like they once did. Consistency is key. I'll definitely stop back by Hobby Lobby for sale items after different holidays, but more than likely I will go to one of the other stores that isn't so cramped among other things.
