| - Stayed here for two nights with my fiance after a 6.5 hour drive from New York. We were up since 3:30am and arrived in Montreal quite early, so we anxiously waited to check in to fit in a power nap before touring the city. About a half hour to 3pm (check-in time) we were informed that our room was ready, so we drove to St. Paul and found ourselves before a building that those who are fond of beautiful architecture like ourselves would admire. The lobby was dark, but contemporary, with bright purple seating that you can't miss. It also shares the same floor as the restaurant Hambar, where we had our last brunch.
We checked in at the front desk with a friendly staff who also surprised us with news that our room was upgraded to a Penthouse room. We excitedly took the Gothic elevator up to the 10th floor and discovered the hotel's dark, spooky hallways, then walked into a decently sized room with high ceilings, classical music playing, and a huge window showcasing natural sunlight, with a view of nothing but another building just a few feet across.
Despite the lacking view, we really enjoyed our stay. We never turned off the music and slept with it on because it was so calming. The room was extremely clean and chocolate was left on our bed every evening, which I devoured ofcourse. I also loved the deep tub, great water pressure and the overabundance of storage space. The bed was comfortable - my fiance didn't complain once about the mattress :). More importantly, the hotel was close proximity to all the attractions we planned to visit and was surrounded by great restaurants. We highly recommend St. Paul to anyone who plans to visit Montreal!
