| - I just left Stein Mart, Sycamore Commons , Matthews. I had to leave simply because had I not left I may have broken down crying.
I entered the store and an African American associate spoke to me. The second associate that I saw I approached and asked if there were any dress pants that zipped on the side/or back ( as they typically fit my and my daughter's body type very well, she stated that she didn't know whether or not they had any, & that I should possibly check the boutique; & added that she was not familiar with that area of the store. As I entered the boutique area the first sales associate that I approached and spoke with walked up to the other associate that was arranging some balloons in the boutique area and sang happy birthday aloud. I continued looking in the racks and found a glut of the exact description of dress pants with zippers on the side. I began to wander into clearance a few feet away, & 2 other Caucasion customers entered the boutique area , both of whom were immediately approached and offered 20% off coupons. I was just a few feet away, and was not approached, spoken to, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, not offered a coupon! I stood there in utter disbelief; I do believe that I just experienced blatant discrimination! My eyes welled up with tears as stood there, I decided that I would leave the store. I then stopped myself and waited at the register where the African American cashier was ringing up customers, I waited until she was finished and asked if there was a manager with whom I could speak. She called him, & he promptly arrived, & I explained to him what happened. He acknowledged my concerns, & apologized, stating that that was not good customer service. I then decided, that I had voiced my concerns, & I trust that he would address them. So I decided that I would continue to shop. As I walked back over towards the boutique the sales associate that had the balloons spoke to me, & I responded in kind. The straw that broke the proverbial camel's back was that she still did not offer me a coupon!!!!!! I was extremely offended, stopped and and reiterated to the manager what had just happened & left the Stein Mart store. I have never so blatantly felt as though I was discriminated against as on this occasion!
