  • I am sharing my experience with Lapel's of Chandler and Gilbert because I don't want what happened to my silk drapes to happen to anyone else. I have been using Lapel's for about one year. Bring my king size duvets in every month to be cleaned and pressed with heavy starch. I have very rarely received my duvets back the same way each month. One month they are very crisp and ironed and the next I have to send them back to be pressed properly or sizing/starch added. I have never been able to sign up for the at home delivery and pick up due to the inconsistency in the results. Last week I took in my silk drapes from Pottery Barn ($150 per drape) - it never occurred to me with the inconsistency in the duvets that my drapes could possibly be ruined. But I was wrong. I picked up my drapes this week and they had clearly been washed. They shrunk in length over 7 inches. Not only did they shrink but the texture was changed due to having been washed. There were two women at the cleaners that day - the one with long hair was helping me when I asked her had the drapes been washed the she said she did not know. She asked the other woman with short hair how would she know and the woman with short hair answered "I don't know." I then asked if she could find out, but she ignored me and continued to process the cleaning on the table in front of her. In the mean time another customer came in and the woman with long hair started helping her while I stood there looking incredulously at my drapes and to someone for answers. Neither of them could give any answers nor were they interested. I took my drapes and left. I later called the Gilbert store and left a message for the owner Jeff. I have spoke with Jeff before over the inconsistency of the quality of sizing in my duvets. I was not impressed with his customer service. Jeff called me back and after speaking with him said "yes they could have been washed ....but we can re-stretch them." Again I was incredulous over this reply as in my experience you cannot stretch silk. He later texted me saying he needed more time... I only presumed his "stretching" is not going so well. I picked my drapes up two days later and they had indeed "grew" 7 inches. Oddly I found loose threads on the top of my drape, as well as a damaged ring holder. It appears as thought they removed the hem on the top of the drape and re-sewn. Bottom line -- I don't know what they did for sure but my silk drapes were washed, returned damaged and no reply from the owner on replacing them. (As a side note I have pictures of the mishaps but was unable to load them to yelp of a duvet that was "pressed" and returned to folded into multiple directions and clearly never pressed as well as the drapes). Update 1/7/16: The owner agreed to replace the drapes. Per his email today the caveat is he will keep them hostage until I remove my review on YELP. In closing he stated " I think it is probably better for both of us if we no longer perform your dry cleaning." I don't know but I thought I made it pretty clear on 12/12/16 when I saw that my $300 silk drapes had been washed and I was being asked to sign a waiver stating they were cleaned according to their label that I would NEVER come back to their store again.
