  • I tend to avoid giving 1-star reviews because there is usually SOMETHING redeemable about my experience. Unfortunately this was not the case with NU Car Rentals in Las Vegas. If you value your time and safety, DO NOT RENT A CAR HERE!!! First of all, the staff at the counter are extremely pushy about buying their additional insurance coverage (like, way more than other car rental places). If you have car insurance, you should be good! The car we were given seemed perfectly fine after driving it to our hotel. However, only 3 hours later, the car would not start. It was Saturday night and we had dinner reservations, so we were not happy to be sidelined. After spending 30 minutes reading the manual and making sure we were doing everything correctly when starting the car, I called NU and explained the problem. Rather than being helpful, the staff member told me it was a bummer I hadn't signed up for their roadside assistance. Since I have AAA, I called them and they immediately sent a truck out to jump-start our faulty vehicle. When the AAA attendant jumped our car, he warned us that the battery was dead and that the car probably wouldn't start again. It seemed like the car we had been given had barely been inspected! At 9 PM we headed BACK to NU to get a different car. When we talked to an attendant, she had the audacity to ask us why we hadn't filled up the gas tank! There's nothing quite like spending your first night of vacation in a parking lot waiting for roadside assistance. This experience also cost us our dinner reservation. :/ Finally, we were given a new rental car and we made it through the next couple days with no incidents. That is until we went to get gas. Turned out that the door to the gas tank was jammed and wouldn't open! We even tried opening it with our key, but the gas door would not budge. Super relieved we were just filling up the tank before returning the car instead of running on empty in the middle of nowhere. When we brought the car back to NU, they STILL tried to charge us for a gas! Overall, this was the worst rental car experience of my life. Do not let the cheap prices entice you! It's just not worth it.
