  • I had a very poor experience buying a certified used car from Toyota of Concord. First off, I called them on a Friday to ask about a used Toyota they had for sale on another Hendrick lot. On Friday afternoon the salesperson notified me that the car was IN STOCK ad that he would call me again in the morning to confirm. I had to drive down from Raleigh so wanted to be sure that it was still in stock. Saturday morning rolls around and he notifies me that the car is still in stock so I get in the car and head down to Concord. About halfway down he says that the car was MAY have been sold last night to a guy in Tennessee but that he was "checking on it". Mind you, this car has been on a Hendrick lot since January. He then calls me again (after I pull off the interstate to hear back) and tells me the car has in fact been sold. At this point I am a little peeved but do understand that things happen. Well lo and behold I get ANOTHER phone call about 30 minutes later (after I am on the way back to Raleigh) and he says that the guys financing has fallen through and that he is on the way to get the car. At this point I am pretty peeved but I turn around and continue my journey to Concord. Everything goes pretty smoothly from then on (there was a stick in the car for some odd reason) and I decide to purchase the car. As part of the purchase agreement I wanted the car Toyota Certified so I made arrangement to pick up the car the following Friday so all required maintenance etc could be done on the car. Additionally, at this point we find out that the car does not have a spare key. The salesperson told us it is "probably at the other dealership and that he would go look around for it". Usually this wouldn't bother me but it is a limited edition with a push start so the spare key is $440.00. We CLEARLY tell the salesperson that we want a spare key MADE if the current one cannot be found (during the week it is getting certified) and that I would agree to buy it at 50% off retail or the dealers cost if necessary. I wanted this done during the week as I was already taking work off on a Friday to come pick up the car. I was also told the car would be fully detailed and cleaned. Friday rolls around and I go to Concord to pick up my car. I called the salesperson again to be sure that the car was ready to be picked up and inquired that I really wanted that spare key when I got down there. Well of course we get down there and the spare key has not been made, there is a loose part sitting in back seat, there is a dora the explorer band aid clearly on the floor along with goldfish and dust all over the interior of the car. Needless to say I was not happy at all. The salesperson goes into this long drawn out conversation about how the "key guy" didn't come this week or only comes one day a week. So you are telling me that a major Toyota dealership isn't able to cut keys on demand? Pretty weak and stupid excuse in my opinion. After much back and forth we get it IN WRITING that the Hendrick Dealership in Apex would cut me a key for 50% off of retail (WHICH THEY DID IN ABOUT AN HOUR). I guess the Toyota dealership in Apex has better and faster key cutting technology than the one in Concord. Well that required me to take more time off of work after I had already had to burn a day going down to Concord. The car also already has a maintenance light that has come on and my breaks are squealing like a pig. Needless to say, I would not recommend buying a "certified" used car from here. If you do decide to go that route, get EVERYTHING in writing and DO NOT take the salesperson's word for anything!
