Gaucho Parrilla is a lovely touch to the spirit of Pittsburgh.
This place doesn't lack any more reviews. Enough said by above people.. But as a reminder of persistent great quality, I hereby add my input. Gaucho means a cowboy of South America. And Parrilla (parrrrriischa in Argentinian accent) means grill. Legends say the owner was inspired by his uncle who lives in Argentina.
Good food needs many things. The most important things are fresh local natural ingredients, a happy passionate unbothered chef and good company. As you wait in line for about an hour here, you can hear the people working in the kitchen cheerfully shouting and the cashier ladies taking orders with big jovial smiles.
Tried Arrachera with salad. It was fantastic!! Arrachera is a beef skirt steak (a cut from the plate, people say flank steak).. This steak is not easy to cook. It's not the most tender and not many people know how to cook it. If you know how to grill an arrachera, you're a master!. This steak was awesomely grilled (medium in my case), super tender and seasoned to perfection. It's served with 2 bread slices. You can get four types of sauces which were very tasty.
They have a decent menu size. There are plenty of seafood options, fish of the day was Bronzini. Also they have lots of vegetarian options if you're vegan or vegetarian.
Few things:
- This place is located in the Strip of Pittsburgh, parking is available within few blocks..
What's better than taking a glorious walk after a dinner like this? The farther away from the place, the better!. It's also about 15 minutes walk from the heart of downtown Pittsburgh..
- Plan to wait for an hour in line.
- They have weird transformers heads (Optimus Prime..)..I don't know why but I like it..
- I still need to try few other places to say this is the best in Pittsburgh.
Overall, this is a casual wonderful Argentinian restaurant. You can eat here at least on a weekly basis.
