Walking tour of the store for East Coast Expats:
This place is more like Smart N Final or a club store than a proper supermarket. At first one is met with the processed foods in large quantities section: pack of 20 Mac n cheese, chips, crackers and such then you face the produce: color coded with green for pesticide and artificially fertilized stuff and blue for the organically grown stuff. Because that makes sense. The prices on what little organic selection they had are competitive. (NYers note this section is very Fairway market but n
ot nearly as clean).
Then one swings around to deli and fridge cases. Deli meats are pretty scliced into a dish and you order from that but once that dish is empty they fresh slice to order. No numbers to grab so run and politely make your position in line known.
Bread selection is also kept in islands here. As are presliced, pre-packed deli cheeses. Didn't see an import cheese section.
Wedged in the corner between deli and produce is the bulk item section. Ranges from legumes, to pasta, to *dehydrated sauces* and behind that the usual fruit/nut/snacks. Gluten free stuff located there also! Along the wall are bulk pet food and fresh ground nut butters.
Past the deli are freezers with a modest selection of desserts and frozen meals. Very good selection of Annie's products and very good PRICES. Very small modest selection of gourmet ice cream ditto on PRICES (will stock up soon!) Most selection at this store is aimed at Walmart shoppers. So organic, gluten free, vegan options are few but cheap.
I did see a bakery with your usual selection of giant spongy breads, if you were hoping for a more east coast bread selection try Glaziers or Sprouts. Canned, non-fresh stuff we didn't look at since we had only one bag with us (try limiting your shipping to the bags you bring and see what happens!). I'll update next week.
Overall grade C+ for fresh ground butter and cheapo haagen-das. Also some credit cards offer 5-6% cashback on supermarkets so not taking them is a real loss of money back!!! Also I would really like to not be in a store with people using shopping carts like pickup trucks. Good luck y'all.
