After wanting to try Good Food on Montford for months, I was finally able to yesterday evening with my girlfriend. The food definitely lived up to the name, but the service was absolutely horrible. We arrived around 5:45 and got a table immediately (no reservations are taken), but the place was full by around 6:15-6:30.
Since it's tapas style, we started with the beer battered broccoli. The beer batter was heavy and added a good crunch to the outside of the broccoli, but the inside was still soft and tender which was great. There wasn't much cheddar taste other than in the bechamel style sauce underneath. The pickled jalapenos added no spice either, but it was very good overall.
Once, the broccoli arrived, we put in an order for the pork belly steamed bun with our waiter. We finished off the broccoli, waited, and waited. Our waiter checked on us after about 20-25 minutes and I went ahead and ordered the parmesan gnocchi while we were waiting since the pork bun seemed to be taking awhile. From the time we ordered it, the steamed bun took 35 minutes to get to the table, and our waiter never came back before it arrived to check on us or give us an update/take more orders. The pork belly was very tender, had a decent bit of 5 spice flavor, and a strong soy sauce flavor as well. The steamed bun was soft and a perfect pillow for the pork. Very good overall! The parmesan gnocchi came out after a bit more waiting, and it was excellent as well! The gnocchi were so soft, and the cream sauce had a strong but not overpowering parmesan flavor. It lacked many pieces of chicken or mushrooms as promised but was still awesome.
Overall, the broccoli was good, the steamed bun was delicious, and the gnocchi were out of this world, but it took over 30 minutes for both the steamed bun and gnocchi to come to our table after ordering, and our waiter really did not visit the table often enough. We spent nearly 2 hours at Good Food just to eat 3 plates, and we were going to order one more but decided we didn't have time since we were seeing a concert later in the evening and everything had been especially slow.
