| - I'd worn contacts 23 years, astigmatism in both eyes. I was like 400/20, legally blind without vision correction.
Last year, I decided I was tired of glasses and contacts and decided to get PRK (which is way better than LASIK, do your research!!!).
Since I had vision insurance, I checked out what providers were covered and found Horizon.
Called them up, scheduled a consultation for which I was able to get in fairly quickly.
Did the consult, the techs were knowledgeable, patient and friendly.
Scheduled the surgery for the following Friday, which ended up being St. Patrick's Day (so I had the luck of the Irish with me :) )!
Went into surgery not being able to see a single face, just outlined figures. Dr McCulloch literally talked through the entire surgery telling me exactly what he was doing the entire time. It took 10 mins or less. And although it was weird, it was super cool to literally watch this entire process happen to my eyes!
When they said it was done and propped me up, I could actually see the faces of the people in the operating room, that's how much of an improvement it was immediately! I couldn't believe it, I could SEE!!! Even though it was slightly blurry, it was certainly an improvement from my previous vision! I was amazed.
No issues with anything, all advice given to me was excellent, there was no misinformation or lack of instructions for post-op care. Most things were covered partially or in whole by my insurance provider.
Healing time was fine, with the day/night (Saturday) after surgery being the worst day because my eyes wouldn't stop tearing up and it was difficult to sleep because of that. But it was all uphill after day 2 and my vision just improved more and more everyday that week.
It's been almost a year now since I had PRK and my last follow up test was 20/15!
I read some of the previously posted reviews and have to agree, I can see where people were waiting for what seemed like excessive amounts of time, I feel like I experienced that on one of my follow up visits. One other review complained about being misled completely, with questions going unanswered, no advice on meds, etc and I just found that review to be a little bit of an exaggeration because I felt that I was given a plethora of information and no question I asked went unanswered by this staff. And I am quite the curious (and straight forward) customer.
The only negative difference I notice between my eyes pre and post-PRK, is I feel like I am more sensitive to light and touching of the eye area, like if my eyes itch and I rub them, if I rub too hard or the wrong way, it can feel uncomfortable or if something gets in my eye, it feels more painful than I remember before surgery. I mentioned this to the Dr but it may just be unique to me as he doesn't recall previous PRK patients providing this feedback. And that's fine 'cause I can see!!!!
Totally 100% satisfied and have already recommended to others (PRK and Horizon). Thanks Dr McCulloch and team, see you on my 2 yr follow up!
