  • Avalon Meat Candy is a brand new jerky store that is open on the southeast side. Not only do they carry jerky items, but also some other products, many of which are made in house. Avalon is a new business that has taken over the Baked, or Caked bakery that was here for a little while. I saw the new sign and was instantly intrigued because there is no beef jerky store in the area, and I am a fan of beef jerky. After watching it for a while, I saw the open sign, and decided to check it out. Avalon Meat Candy is located next to the Sushi Mon on Maryland Parkway, across the street from the 24hour fitness, and also next to a Starbucks. The inside of the store is simply set up, with bins of packaged beef jerky, as well as other products that they sell. After meeting the owner Christian, he told me a lot about the jerky that they carry. First, all the jerky that he sells is made in the store. Most places in town, including the Beef Jerky Store on Fremont, are distributors, and who knows where their jerky comes from? Secondly, Christian only uses Angus beef, from the same people that sell their beef to some of the top steakhouses in town. The proof is in the pudding. And the pudding is in the taste. Some of the best beef jerky I've ever tasted. You can taste the quality in the beef. It makes you want to have another piece. The spices, rubs, and marinades that Christian uses are bold, full flavored, and bright tasting, and nothing tasted muted or muddled at all, another sure sign of quality product. More than just beef jerky, Avalon also sells fruit roll ups or fruit jerky that he makes into roses. They also sell the rubs and marinades used in the jerky for retail as well, which you can use for grilling or some BBQ action. There is also local honey that is made in Mesquite, which you can use for allergies. Christian is very passionate about what he does, and you can taste it in his products. Best beef jerky in Vegas!
