We had bought a Groupon for a BBQ picnic package and since we were on that side of town yesterday we decided to go ahead and use it for takeout to bring home. Let me say - I was really impressed! We ended up getting a pound of brisket, a pound of pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, garlic potatoes, and peach cobbler. It also came with bread so we opted for half jalapeño cornbread and half dinner rolls. It was a good sign when we pulled up in the middle of the day and the parking lot was full of cars. Since we had Breann, our dog, with us hubby waited in the car while I ran in to get it. The inside of the place is awesome with wood furniture and Western decor throughout. You go down the line and pick what selections you want and they build your plate while you watch. I was really impressed with the fact that they weighed everything. So I knew that the pound of brisket or pulled pork that I received was really a full pound because I was able to view the scale when they sat each on it. The meat was very tender and not at all fatty or gristly. The smokiness was definitely evident and no sauce was even needed although I did slather it with their original sauce which had a sweetness to it that I really enjoyed. All of the sides we received were very good however I think the macaroni and cheese was my favorite! The noodles were firm and the cheese was thick and creamy, just the way I like it. The jalapeño cornbread was very good and not very spicy at all. The peach cobbler had a little tartness to it and not too sweet. Perfect for the dollop of ice cream we topped it with! I also really appreciated the fact that they wrapped everything in saran wrap individually for transport. Not only did it not make a mess in the car but it also kept in the heat so when we got all the way back to the west side of town things were still pretty warm. Everyone was very friendly and made sure to make me feel welcome. We will definitely keep this on our list of go to places whenever we find ourselves on the east side of town again.
