| - Every man knows what he needs to be truly happy in life: a stiff, well crafted drink, a hunk of perfectly cooked meat with a nasty huge pile of fries, good atmosphere, and an amazing significant other to share it with. L'Orignal delivered in spades on all accounts, (except for my wife, who I already had before I walked in. She told me to eat whatever I want, which I did, and is one of the main reasons I married her.) Service at a 6PM seating was super chill and friendly. Michael took the time to sit with us and discuss the food , and there was never any sort of rush in our meal. Salad was really good, as were oysters to start. The Moosanada (Moos-uh-nada, not Moos-anada, as in Canada) is an unholy tasty concoction of tequila, mescal, citron, and apple, topped with ginger beer, ginger and nutmeg. One of these and the cozy basement room was spinning nicely. The steak...the best steak frites I've ever had in Montreal after a lifetime of immersion: perfectly cooked ribeye, simple reduction, pile of fries to the ceiling. Happiness on a massive plate. Wife got two (yes, two, because she loved the first so much ) salmon tartars, which was a blend of spice, cucumber, dill, and very fresh salmon. After some digestion, I took Michael's suggestion on the sticky toffee, which was a decadent and phenomenal delight topped with rum butter.
Good, well paced dining in a non-pretentious environment. Love it, will definitely be back.
