I make a visit to the West Side Market on a weekly basis. I absolutely love the place. I've grown to learn so much about the different vendors and have enjoyed trying a variety of foods. Here are a few of my top vendors:
Urban Herbs - this place is a gem! The workers are super friendly and you can get just about any herb or spice on the planet for a fraction of the cost. Try their curry 4 pack...it's absolutely amazing. They also have a variety of flavored salts and different types of rice.
Steve's Gyros - these gyros are HUGE and delicious! The owners are amazing and have the best personalities. They only take cash. The wait can be long but if you arrive around opening (10AM) on a Saturday you will most likely breeze through the line.
Jacob's Oasis - this Mediterranean food stand has the absolute best hummus and dips. Try the hot feta dip or the sundried tomato feta dip and you'll be hooked for life!
Foster's Meats - they have ground lamb. It is simply amazing. I use it in place of ground beef in many recipes and the flavor is enhanced. They also have really fresh oxtails.
The Pork Chop Shop - the Christmas Ale bacon is absolutely amazing. It has a deep flavor with a hint of sweetness. It sells out by mid afternoon so get some early in the day. Their chorizo is also very good.
There's also a juice place right beside Steve's Gyros that sells amazing flavored lemonades and fresh squeezed juices. Try them out!
Take your time and learn the market. After a few trips you'll be a pro! Tip: Remember to always pick your own produce. A few of the produce vendors will bag items that are nearly spoiled if you're not watching. Enjoy the market! I know I have.
