| - Internet in three chapters
Chapter one:
COX
I have been a cox customer for over five years and of course had my share of problems. Why did I stay with them? My lame answer to that is insecurity, I depend on my internet for the research, writing, and communication to continue and complete a dissertation. This includes fear of losing data and a gap in service which I am disclosing as a defense for my weakness in keeping them in my home. I will share with you only one of the ridiculous situations that I encountered.
Late one evening I found my wireless internet was not working and called the after hour service and this is what followed: (1) When the phone call was answered it sounded like a party was going on and the person who answered did not appear to be listening and between his conversations with others asked questions that were either things I had already told him or questions that made no sense. (2) I was referred by this person who was anxious to get off the phone to another person who was rude and obviously did not want to be bothered. (3) I was first told by this person that I had the wrong equipment, which made no sense since it had been set up by their company (4) This agent instructed me to unplug all the wires, one at a time, I explained many times that I did not know what the wires were and was concerned about being able to reattach them, he continually told me he would assist. However, when all of the wires were out he said I would have to call the next day to schedule someone to come out. (5) So, next day I called and after having to move out of my communication comfort level an appointment was made for the next day (6) The next day I waited patiently until a few minutes until five and no one showed up (6) I called in and the tech who was contacted stated he had been to my house and no one was home (not possible) (7) The tech came and was only able to plug in the wire and could not connect me to any devices (8) I contacted a private technician and paid $67.00 to have things connected. I wrote a letter of concern to COX who made no response.
On the 23rd of July I went on vacation for a week, I pay my bills online on the 20th of the month and for some reason they did not submit correctly and my internet went off while I was gone, My house sitter thought it was due to a storm. When I returned home I called and was told it was because of an unpaid bill. Understand that I had not received anything in the mail, no phone call or message. I discontinued my service immediately and was told by that agent that the equipment had been purchased by me in July of 2016. It actually took me over a week to get internet from a different company but as soon as this happened I could see that my payment had not submitted and paid it immediately. The next is probably the most unusual thing to happen (even for Cox). I found a tag on my door stating that someone had made an attempt to pick up equipment and believe it or not, collect money!!!! COLLECT money at the door (is there anyone who would give money to someone at their door?) Anyway, when I called in this time I spoke to a very nice young man who told me I actually did not own the equipment but other than that did not owe anything, I stated that I would call the number on the card and arrange for pick up. This has not so far worked well because I work on call and was not home. I scheduled with the company, hired someone to stay at my house and that didn't work either. I certainly would like very much for to get this equipment out of my house and close this door forever.
