| - I've been here primarily for kidney issues with positive experiences but also visited the ER more recently having fractured my ankle.
My ER experience itself was certainly on the better end compare to most people. I was in-out in 7 hours which included triage, xrays, casting, xrays, and the all clear. The nurses were incredibly nice and helpful, and the triage nurse even had the doctor give me a 30 second "does this hurt? does this hurt?" to speed up the time and get me straight to xrays. Everyone was nice however the doctors were not informative. I was told I would be getting a cast before they even told me what was broken. At no point was I given ANY instructions such as how long to expect my cast to be on, what warning signs to watch out for of something wrong, literally they said to keep it elevated and take tylenol and that someone would call me by the end of the week for a follow up. I had to chase after them to even get a drs note for work.
Sadly things didn't get any better from there. I was never contacted for my follow up appointment and only got one after calling other hospitals instead and being transferred over (at which point the call was picked up immediately while my cellphone had been waiting on hold for a receptionist for 3 hours). Had I myself not chased for this, I would never had been contacted by the hospital which is ENTIRELY unacceptable.
When I did go for my appointment, the xray techs had terrible poker faces and in the end admitted that the ER cast was done incorrectly and would need to be removed. The way that my leg was casted resulted in extreme pain when they had to re-flatten my foot and reset it to the appropriate position, on the long term this may have affected the way my ankle healed, AKA THE REST OF MY LIFE. It turned out that the ER hadn't seen the full extent of my fractures either as they had missed two of the bones that had been broken.
My follow up appointment was made, however it turned out that the doctor was on vacation when they had rescheduled me for, so after having my appointment cancelled I had to argue with the receptionists to reschedule that week rather the 2 weeks later that they were trying for.
My follow up appointment with that new doctor was terrible. He was in the room for less than 1 minute to state that I should walk without my crutches going forward. He declined to answer questions I had about my injury, declined to write me a referral for rehabilitation, or any of the other therapies covered by my work insurance. An entirely useless appointment that did not serve my medical needs. I now need to pay out of pocket to see a doctor who will actually look at my injury and aid me in correcting the poor work from the Montreal General. Joint issues, particularly in the foot and knee (I have an injury on this same leg's knee) cause lifelong issues, and the fact that the doctor from the MG declined to serve my pain or physical issues was insulting and reckless.
