| - Longtime HHonors member here and I usually stay at the Doubletree when I come to Pittsburgh, but seeing the new Embassy Suites opened, I wanted to check it out. In brief, it's a pretty nice place but I think they have a few things to work out which is understandable because they are so new.
There's a lot to like: The office building the hotel is in is absolutely gorgeous. I love the marble lobby and the beautiful elevators. Speaking of which, there are plenty of elevators to whisk you to the lobby on the 25th floor!
Check in was very quick and efficient. The lobby is gorgeous with spectacular views on every side.
The room was comfortable and large. The blackout shades were my favorite feature. No light got in from the windows when those were lowered! Pillows were comfortable. The room was clean and the daily service was timely and unobstrusive.
The coffee in the breakfast area was phenomenal! I really liked that.
Gym and pool are nice and you have a cool view of PNC Park from the hallway that goes to the pool.
Location is great. It was super easy to walk to Strip District, PNC Park, Station Square and nearby museums (Warhol, Heinz, etc).
Areas for improvement: The shower looks great but leaks badly and floods the floor easily. It's a big glass shower and unless I aimed the shower head (which was very high and hard for me to reach) at the wall, it would take a bathmat and two towels to soak up the water that leaked out.
The breakfast was free, but not good. After the first day, I stuck with the fruit and coffee. Made to order omelets were okay but the food on the hot bar was sub par. Eggs were bland, potatoes were cold, pancakes and waffles were limp and undercooked. Bacon was okay but that's about it.
If you take a cab there, the valet and taxi stop is right in a bus stop on a busy street so that is not ideal. It's a weird setup to try to find where the hotel is exactly since it's really the top 10 floors of an office building.
Overall, it was okay but just didn't seem polished yet. I would stay here again, though.
