  • Indulgent Monstrosities. That is what you are paying to battle in Au Pied de Cochon. Huge portions of delicious delicious beasts imaginatively cooked, outrageously decadent, and quite often topped with foie gras. This is a popular destination so be prepared to make a reservation (via email or phone) at the very least a month in advance. Make sure to confirm my reservation the night or the day of via email/phone. I failed to confirm my reservation the first time I came here and when we showed up our name was not on the list. Luckily we didn't wait long to be seated. The interior is casual and cool; with a accordion windowed doors in the front that opens in the summer and hanging pendant lights with Edison bulbs. The layout is a little weird and somewhat cramped. The bathrooms are at the end of the bar/ kitchen area. If you're seated in the front, it is an odyssey to dodge and duck your way to the bathroom. Service each time was friendly and quick despite a crowded night. The food is amazing. Luxuriously rich and served in gluttonous amounts. You need to be a rotund competitive eater to be able to eat everything. -Duck Carpaccio 14 It looks like art and it tastes fantastic. Drizzled with olive oil and the yolks of some unknown fowl, each bite is unctuous goodness. -Foie Gras Poutine 24 This is probably my favorite poutine dish. Creamy rich fattiness over crisp fries. You just have to order this. -Stuffed Pied de Cochon with Foie Gras 45 This could probably feed 3 to 4 people comfortably. Its pigs foot cooked til the skin is delightful crisp, covered with creamy sauce, over some wonderful mash of potato married with cheese. All crowned with an obscenely huge chunk of foie gras. -Duck in a Can 44 I ordered this the first time I came here. It is an experience you should have when you're in Montreal. The duck breast with foie gras is cooked in the can. The meat basically cooks in this rich fatty bath. They open the can at the table and dump the contents on a plate of some creamy puree. It is incredibly rich. Be careful not to order too much if you plan on ordering this. -If it appears on the menu again get the Foie gras Tout Nu. Heavenly morsels that melt in your mouth with this dark thick sauce that makes your taste bud sing. This was my first taste of foie gras and it was an experience. -My husband got Horse tartare the last time we were here. It was a humongous portion and came with crispy a yummy fries. The horse tartare was seasoned beautifully. It had a nice heat and was so flavorful. Drinks are great. I had a bourbon cocktail with maple syrup ($12) and my husband got the cream ale ($6). Despite already coming here twice and despite there being so many other places I would like to visit in Montreal, it would be hard for me to resist the temptation of coming here. Fight the urge to order everything. It is a great experience to dine so sinfully.
