Today I had an appointment for my daughter at 0900 for her six month checkup. When I began to fill out the paper work one of the girls at the front desk (yes, girls...I think she was about 18) asked me if I wanted to pay $25 dollars for an x-ray for my daughters back teeth. I told her no because it was not covered by my insurance. So she asked me to fill out a paper and sign a statement saying I declined the service and that it is possible my child could have undetected cavities due to the fact I declined that service.
I took my 20 year old daughter to a dentist in Rapid City South Dakota from the time she was five years old all the way through her braces and beyond and was NEVER asked to pay for an x-ray! And I sure as heck was never asked to be responsible for the fact my child might have cavities because I declined one!
After waiting for my appointment for over thirty minutes I went back to the front desk and told the girl I wouldn't be able to keep our appointment because it was taking way too long, not to mention that I felt guilty for sitting in a chair while seven other people had to stand up due to the fact so many people were scheduled there was nowhere for them to even sit! She tried to convince me to stay by saying a chair would be open soon, and when I insisted I was leaving she tossed my daughters chart on the counter and said "Well, then call us when you would like to reschedule". Um, no my dear, I will not be rescheduling with this dentist! I felt uncomfortable six months ago with the dentist and the sanitation of the office, but this sent me over the edge. Very unprofessional dentist's office and they were very good at making me feel like my daughter was not important to them in the least. If they missed a cavity on her it sure as heck wouldn't be my fault! Unbelievable.
