  • Nurses are special people. They can remain calm in Emergency Rooms, Delivery Rooms, and Operating Rooms. They can get patients to do things that they don't want to do - or else... Yup, I've heard about these people who make the impossible possible. One such example is Jean C. I met her online through Yelp, took a chance, and met her in real life. She had already met my friend, Craig, and he said that Jean is a nice person. Craig had gone to Red Rock Canyon with Jean earlier this year and enjoyed it. So, I guess I was Jean's next "victim"... Some how, Jean got me to go the Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas when the temperature in June was over 100 degrees! The truth is, she was so excited to share this place with me, that she drove me there and through the 13 miles of breath-taking desert scenery! She said it's one of her favorite places (she has a $30 annual pass - regular admission is $7 per car) and sometimes comes to have a picnic at one of the many hangout spots! We also stopped in at the beautiful and air conditioned Visitor's Center where a furry creature crossed the path in front of us. I'm sure it was not a snake or tarantula - I've heard about those things, but haven't seen them in the wild - yet. It was smaller than a deer and a coyote... maybe it was a chipmunk? Not sure. All we have in Hawaii are feral cats and chickens, and wild boar! Ha ha! Inside the Visitor Center was a Gift Shop, a Photo Contest Exhibit, and an educational video. The cutout gave us a fun photo opportunity and the view gave us a "WOW" moment. That is a Million Dollar view! The gigantic picture window faces the colorful landscape and makes a great panoramic experience! Along the 13 paved miles of self-guided tour are hiking trails and lookout points. Jean almost kicked me out of the car and prompted me to take photos. (Why didn't she get out of the car, too? She was enjoying the car's air-conditioning - smart girl!) She said she had taken one shot towards the left and one shot towards the right. Both views are magnificent and contrasting! Yes! I'm glad I did it! Thanks to Nurse Jean for getting this patient to open her mind and horizon! It was a fantastic learning opportunity! Mahalo for your kindness and hospitality!
