I don't know what the deal is here. Like Chris C, my first visits were outstanding. Everything was perfect, service was on point, food was delicious and simple. And then everything went downhill. They expanded and they changed the menu and they got new owners. The amazing location and the fundamental charm didn't change, but the food got a bit lackluster and service went out the window.
I don't know how long it takes to seat a party, even if that party has a reservation and your hostess appears to be standing about. I could probably guess. I don't know how long it takes to get that party (now seated) menus. I could probably guess. I don't know why a pretty standard dinner could take three hours. I'm sure you could guess. I don't want to comment on whether or not my chicken was undercooked or if I was just drunk.
And I still don't understand why, despite being a French restaurant, they don't have truly outstanding bread. Even Mon Ami Gabi (a CHAIN!) does that right.
I have to give three stars, because I'm torn between how I feel (two stars! two stars!!!) and how I want to feel (five stars! five stars!!). They need to whip their staff into shape (service has been an issue on multiple occasions, if you are wondering). They need to get the fundamentals down. They can keep their wine just as is (perfect!). And they need to think about what sets them apart.
