  • I took a round trip to Kauai, switching planes in Honolulu. I purchased a packaged deal through Costco. I have flown with Hawaiian some years ago before and had a pleasant experience so I was happy to book with them again.I basically experienced flying in 4 different Hawaiian Airlines planes in one round trip this time around. The food was consistently terrible and coffee and tea both extremely watered down. Most passangers around me had 2 bites of their lunch and disposed the rest. I wish they stuck to the plain sandwiches they serve on morning flights as opposed to plain rice with the worst chicken I have ever tasted and uncooked canned vagetables for salad. If they want to be cheap, they should just skip the meal instead of feeding people with whatever awful ingredients that food is made out of. The planes looked worn. On one flight my tray had coffee and food stains all over. I was shocked there were no entertainment options on a nearly 7 hour flight. Later I found out that there is an option to rent a tablet. I never heard anyone announce it. I saw some people return their tablets when we arrived. I wanted to rent one on the way back. I heard them announce $59 rental fee so I passed. When I checked on the website to confirm the ridiculous charge, it said $17 so maybe I heard wrong. Either way it's too expensive. On one plane, it was hard to find space for my carry-on. That's because they charge to check bags so the overhead bins fill up. Bigger carry-on bags only fit in the outer bins on one plane. The flight crew didn't pay attention if people with smaller items that fit under the seat or in the inner bins crowded the space. I almost had to check my bag which I try not to do so that I don't have to wait on my luggage in the carousel but luckily a flight attendant found a spot. They were on time 3 out of 4 times with one short delay. The staff was also mostly friendly though not always resourceful. That's what earned them 1 of 5 stars. Unless I have no other choice or I am getting a smoking deal on a flight, I am not planning ever travelling Hawaiian again. I flew British Air earlier this year to London for almost the same price and had a 5 star experience. Hawaiian could learn a thing or two on service from them.
