| - My husband and I had been to Heart and Soul a few years ago. We did not return because we thought the price for breakfast was a bit high, considering our dollar to pleasure ratio. The food was just OK and did not warrant the price of the meal. We decided to try it again with a group of friends for a Saturday morning "classic car" breakfast drive. We have eaten here last Saturday and again this Saturday.
Positives: Great service, friendly attentive staff - could not have asked for better. We were seated right away, and after ordering, our meal did not take long to be served. Coffee was served immediately and was spot on. We appreciate a breakfast establishment serving good coffee - Heart and Soul passed the test there.
Last Saturday I had the B...S...Omelet and my husband had The Works Omelet. The B...S... Omelet was bacon, spinich and Swiss cheese. The only thing I really tasted was a slight taste of bacon. Never tasted the spinich and cannot recall even tasting Swiss. My husband said his omelet was OK, but nothing special. We were both unimpressed with our breakfast - it was cooked and plated well, but overall, lacking in any kind of flavor.
This morning, we decided to go to breakfast again with our friends, willing to give Heart and Soul another try. We really just enjoy getting out and driving our classic car to breakfast and visiting with friends. They chose Heart and Soul again as it is in the neighborhood and other classic car drivers also have Saturday morning breakfast there. We all enjoy the atmosphere, which I agree is pretty cool, as we love the old gas pumps and car relics.
This morning I ordered Roasted Veggies Omelet and my husband ordered Chilaquiles and Eggs. My husband described his Chilaquiles as a bunch of store bought multi-colored nacho type chips with a couple eggs slapped on top. He did say it has nice flavor but he said it felt like he just ate a bowl of nacho chips with 2 eggs and some cheese. He knows what authentic Chilaquiles is - this version was not even close. As for my omelet, it was OK - nothing special. I tasted a little tang from the goat cheese, but really nothing else. Does the cook even season anything? For being a roasted veggie omelet, they used nothing to enhance the flavors of the vegetables or the eggs. It was like eating tasteless eggs and filler vegetables - that is how tasteless it was - on both Saturdays. I make breakfast all the time and I know that adding even a bit of spice, butter, heck, salt and pepper, can go a long way. I am sorry to say both my husband and I are unimpressed with Heart and Soul egg dishes - we were hoping they would be much better.
My suggestion is that if Heart and Soul would re-think some of the dishes on their menu and add just a few more ingredients to enhance the flavors of the food they are serving, they would have some truly knock-out breakfast egg dishes.
