  • So my family and I were looking for an authentic Italian restaurant because we've never been able to find a decently priced one. So we tried Carmine's after reading reviews and seeing that it was averagely priced compared to other restaurants. After eating there it definitely could use some improvements A major negative about the restaurant was that I was surprised at how they don't have menus and they looked at me weirdly when I asked them about menus. I mean 99.9% of restaurants have menus so I don't why it's weird asking about it. I don't think any Italian restaurants that I've ever gone to don't give out menus. I suppose it was meant to save costs but I just don't get the logic behind this strategy especially when new customers who come here can easily be turned off by this weird lack of menu experience. Now you can say everyone doesn't mind, however when I went there I saw at least two tables sit down and leave after walking back and forth to look at the menu on the wall. I mean when I go into a restaurant I expect to see menus that way I can converse with people i'm eating with about what to eat and such, especially with dishes that I have to share. So once we sat down they said that menus were on a big screen at the wall and If I wanted a menu I needed to take a picture of it with my phone or stare at it from my table or go up there and look at it. Problem was that the menu on the wall only covered certain portions of the restaurant and certain tables couldn't get a clear view of the menu and my phone was almost dead from a day full of sight seeing. When you make a menu on the wall make sure everyone can see it from a table, that way people can talk to each other in what they want to eat especially since all dishes are shared. That way customers don't have to keep going back and forth and risk higher chances of collisions with waiters, staff, other customers or even cause accidents on spilling food and drink on other people who were all dressed nicely. There's a higher risk of accidents occurring when you have that many people moving around a finite spaced environment. Their menu wasn't even that overly complicated so it could easily be a page or even used as a place mat for eating. So many ideas available when deciding your menu. Then they have certain tables not occupied near the menu wall, because I imagine it obstructs the view of the menu or that people would hate the idea of people walking back and forth around you while you're trying to enjoy a meal. Kind of a waste of real estate for a restaurant and loss revenue when those tables can easily be filled. So a lot of problems could be solved if they just created a menu. Now another minor negative was the food. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't amazing either. The pasta, meats, veggies, and even seafood were all exceptionally fresh. You can taste it. Nothing feels mushy, dried or like it's been sitting in the fridge for months. Everything is exceptionally fresh. The only problem was that the food wasn't really hot. It was warm. My family ordered the Prime Rib special on Saturday and it was warm. It was delicious but it was warm. If it was hotter the food would've easily been a 9/10. I mean if I'm paying that kind of price for that food I expect a certain level of quality. The prices were insane. Just ordering two dishes you can easily top $150. We ordered 3 dishes so you can imagine how expensive it was. The prime rib special on Saturday was $95. But they said it could feed four people. If your family are big eaters like mine, then 2 people could easily finish that. Pastas start at the mid $35 range but adding substitutions adds another $15 to it. Portions are average for that price I would say, The major positive about Carmine's was our waiter. He was decent and was constantly helping us probably the only decent staff member of the whole place. Especially when we wanted a new table because their typical 4 person table wouldn't have been able to accommodate 3 full plates of food. So remember to ask for a bigger table if you're a big eater. And like I said earlier some tables have absolutely no view of the menu and you could really tell which were the good tables and which were the bad ones. Would I go there again? Maybe. It wasn't anything memorable, especially for that price.
