  • Some time ago, I had an abscess. Dr. Jenkins lanced it and gave me antibiotics. Shortly after, I felt really ill and my knee that had surgery in the past had swollen to epic levels. Being the hot part of the season, I was unaware that I had a fever since I am capable of sweating in Siberia. I had missed no follow up appointments as there were none, but felt it was time to go to the urgent care. The doctor there pulled fluid from my swollen knee and quickly exclaimed that I had sepsis and could either go immediately to the hospital, or he could call for an ambulance. That night I had surgery to clean out the infection caused by the lancing of that abscess. A flock of specialists were assigned to my situation. The day after the surgery, I went on my first physical therapy walk. On the way back into the room, I collapsed on the bed in front of my wife and my mother. I was out of oxygen and in trouble. I was soon ventilated in ICU with massive swelling my whole body over. My heart was failing quickly and I was informed later that my large family was "getting affairs in order". I come out of the induced sleep to have a pulmonary guy tell me what a close call I had and a cardiologist that exclaimed how lucky I was to have a heart over sized but strong enough to not require transplant. I was down for a month. Blah, blah, blah, picking up the pieces and paying tons of out of pocket costs while all the time knowing what caused it, my best friend offers the services of a lawyer he has used in the past. The guy tells me, I got this, and drops the ball with time limitations. I go to talk to Dr. Jenkins. He has his lawyer there and says "I was just trying to help you". Really ? Own it Chet, you shortened my life. I am now making arrangements to have open heart surgery that will hopefully undo some of the damage. I am currently in a bankruptcy and suffer from "episodes" of heart issues that have put me back in a hospital bed many times. All I want is remorse Chet.
